Catholic Sisters of Wisconsin
Call for Peace
Women religious have been socially distancing, but we still have a voice! Earlier this month, members of the legislative network of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious Region 9 (communities in Wisconsin) had an urgent meeting to discuss possible actions in response to the violence that erupted in August in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The legislative network was determined to have sisters speak our truth and add our Catholic perspective to the critical conversations concerning racism and law and order. Justice promoters from the region’s congregations were invited to take a socially distanced stand with photos that have now been assembled into a video.
Participating congregations include the Dominican Sisters of Racine; Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa; Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, La Crosse; New Genesis Community, Green Bay; Salvatorans, Milwaukee; Servite Sisters, Ladysmith; School Sisters of Notre Dame, Elm Grove; School Sisters of St. Francis, Milwaukee; Sisters of St. Agnes, Fond du Lac; Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, St. Francis; Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross, Green Bay; and Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, Merrill.
Following Mass on Sunday, September 13, sisters of our community enthusiastically represented the School Sisters of St. Francis’ longstanding commitment to justice, equality, and peace. Our thanks to Sisters Marilyn Holtkamp, Lorraine Wagner, Joyce Wagner, Larina Williams, Bernadette Halbur, and Jamine Angelina for their participation.
Committed to Life-Changing Ministry
Each year, the School Sisters of St. Francis visit dozens of parishes across the country to highlight our mission and ministries as participants in the Mission Cooperation Plan. This year, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, many parishes have invited us to share our ministry stories through a video message.
We are delighted to share this short video narrated by Sister Kate Brenner, introduced by Sister Fran Hicks. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation in support of these and other ministries of our sisters around the world, please click the “Donate Now” button at the top of this page.
