ONE OF THE DELIGHTS OF SUMMER IS THE FEELING OF HOPE.
Hope experienced as summer’s warmth and light grows day by day. Hope arising on the scent of blooming flowers. Hope tasted in fresh, bountiful summer crops. Hope heard in the quiet whisper of bird and butterfly wings.
AMIDST THIS HOPE, WE CONTEMPLATE THE EXTRAORDINARY. Many of the people served by our sisters around the world have extraordinary stories. Stories of vulnerability told by orphaned children in rural Guatemala. Stories of struggles with chronic illness told by isolated villagers in Goreghat, India. Stories of challenges overcome told by abandoned, homeless women in Bangalore, India. Stories of hardships faced told by immigrant families escaping violence on the United States/Mexico border.
WALKING THE HALLS OF OUR CONVENTS, YOU CAN HEAR OUR RETIRED SISTERS SHARING EXTRAORDINARY STORIES ABOUT THE PEOPLE WITH WHOM THEY SERVED AS EDUCATORS AND PASTORAL MINISTERS. Stories of students who, with great determination, overcame learning struggles and gained confidence. Stories recalling adults whose anxieties were calmed after being uplifted by supportive caregiving.
YOU HAVE BEEN GENEROUS WITH YOUR SUPPORT IN THE PAST. Today, we ask you to consider making another gift. Your gift would be a whisper of hope that will join with others to form an outpouring of love. This hope will be experienced in comfort and healing; tasted in nutritious, life-giving foods; arise from a stronger sense of security; heard in gentle promises of a better tomorrow. It is hope that springs from the legacy of our retired sisters to transform the world through peace, justice and love.
MAY THIS SUMMER BE A TIME OF GREAT BLESSING FOR YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES.
You can be assured that the sisters are praying for you daily and asking God that you never give up seeking hope and peace for yourself and for our world.
