Giving Tuesday is December 3
On Tuesday, December 3, you have an opportunity to make a forever difference in the lives of people around the world.
What is Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Celebrated on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, it has grown over the past seven years into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
Why Support Our Sisters on Giving Tuesday?
When you make a gift to the School Sisters of St. Francis on Giving Tuesday, you are making an immediate, positive impact on the lives of thousands of people in need around the world. Our sisters provide poor and marginalized women, men and children with education, medicine and health care, religious ministry and education, advocacy, social services, pastoral care and counseling, and other essential services. Here are just a few examples…
Guadalupe Homes, Santa Apolonia, Guatemala
With your gift, our sisters offer loving, caring home to children of all ages, from infants to teenagers. Older girls and boys living at our children’s home receive vocational training in tailoring, shoe making and carpentry at our onsite workshop. For children whose early years have been filled with challenges, the care and instruction they receive from our sisters provide the skills they need to build a life of faith, independence and success.
Assisi Special School, Bangalore, India
With your gift, our sisters can welcome more special needs students with intellectual, cognitive, and physical challenges and help them reach their potential. As demand has continued to grow, our sisters have expanded services and now offer education, therapy, life skills training, recreation and counseling to 147 students, most from underserved subsistence farm families.
Casa Alexia, El Paso Texas
With your gift, our sisters can provide food supplies that sustain elderly individuals and families living in impoverished and underserved neighborhoods in Juárez, Mexico. Each month, our sisters deliver packages of nutritious staples like rice, cooking oil, and canned food to 110 families who have limited access to income or healthcare. Serving on both sides of the El Paso-Juárez border, our sisters also provide religious education, pastoral care, legal assistance, and English classes for those seeking a better life.
Asha Bhavan, Bangalore, India
With your gift, our sisters can offer a loving home and all of life’s necessities to elderly and developmentally disabled women who have been abandoned by their families. Destitute and with nowhere else to go, 27 women who cannot care for themselves receive food, shelter, medical care and companionship from our sisters in a safe and joyful place of healing and love.
Maria Sadan Hostel, Bichhiya, India
With your gift, our sisters can provide a home away from home and financial aid to over 100 girls from remote subsistence farming villages, allowing them to receive a quality education. Our sisters provide the girls with loving care in a safe environment, scholarships, and tutoring so they can excel at the nearby school. It opens up a world of opportunity for girls who otherwise would be unable to attend high school, or even grade school.
St. Clare School and Parish, Paita Peru
With your gift, our sisters can provide school children and their families with an easy and inexpensive way to purify water from the unsafe urban water system. This allows the families to make the water safe for drinking, cooking, cleaning and bathing. Our sisters also teach, provide family counseling, and offer religious education to sustain the community in body, mind and spirit.
Our Lady of the Angels Convent, Greenfield, Wisconsin
With your gift, you support the care of our retired sisters, who have dedicated their lives to the service of others. At all our facilities of care, our elderly sisters celebrate their faith and embrace opportunities to continue to minister through their prayers and presence. At Our Lady of the Angels Convent, sisters who require memory care receive round-the-clock support for their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being in a loving environment.
With your gift, our sisters can offer education, pastoral care, and access to clean water for children and families living in this impoverished city. Many residents, including children, struggle with poverty and diseases like AIDS, malaria, and typhoid, but our sisters instill hope and nurture the Catholic faith at this, our first African mission.
