Catholic sisters collaborate on immigration ads

Catholic Sisters in Wisconsin have developed a campaign that brings awareness to the need for comprehensive immigration reform in the United States. Through a series of ads and a Facebook page, the Sisters hope to stress the importance of and need for comprehensive and humane reform on immigration legislation; show support from Catholic Sisters for such reform on immigration legislation; and show concretely the impact of the current immigration system on undocumented immigrants and their families.

Print ads were purchased in Catholic and secular newspapers. In February and March, ads were placed three times in five diocesan papers of Green Bay, La Crosse, Madison, Milwaukee, and Superior; and in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Green Bay Press Gazette, Fond du Lac Reporter, and La Crosse Tribune.

A Facebook page titled “Wisconsin Catholic Sisters” was created to build a support base, facilitate discussion, and provide factual information about undocumented immigrants in the United States. The Facebook page addresses the need for comprehensive immigration reform and provides links to web sites with accurate, up-to-date information debunking common myths about undocumented immigrants. To view the page and become a fan of this project, go to www.facebook.com/wiscs on the web.

Collaborating Wisconsin congregations include Sinsinawa Dominicans, Congregation of the Sisters of St. Agnes, Racine Dominicans, School Sisters of Notre Dame, Sisters of the Divine Savior, School Sisters of St. Francis, Sisters of Charity of St. Joan Antida, Servants of Mary, Holy Cross Sisters USA Province, Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother, Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, Daughters of Charity, Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross, and Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis.
