Sister Barbara Kraemer

S. Barbara Kraemer
celebrates 50 years as a School Sister of St. Francis. She was born in Chicago, Illinois. She has a bachelor’s degree from Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (1965); master degrees from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri (1970) and DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois (1978); and a doctorate from the University of Illinois in Chicago (1993). Sister has been an educator and administrator in Illinois, Wisconsin and Honduras. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, Sister taught at St. Clara School (1963-1965) and Alvernia High School (1965-1969). She was a social studies coordinator for four parish schools (1970-1973). Sister served as education director for the School Sisters of St. Francis (1973-1976). At St. Augustine College in Chicago, she taught (1988-1993) and served as associate dean (1993-1996). Sister was a visiting professor at DePaul University in Chicago (1996-1998) and director of the Center for Study of Religious Life in Chicago (1998-2003).Sister was a researcher and teacher with the Social-Religious Institute of the Church in Tegucigalpa, Honduras (1978-1980). In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Sister served as vice president of the School Sisters of St. Francis (1980-1988) and is now the provincial of the U.S. Province of the School Sisters of St. Francis in Milwaukee (2003-present). Sister resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
