Becoming An Associate

Steps in the Process

Once someone expresses an interest in becoming an associate,
they will be invited to a time of orientation with a sister or another associate. During this time, they will learn about:

  • St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi
  • the history of the community
  • the charism, spirituality, mission and ministries of
the School Sisters of St. Francis

while deepening their relationship with the community
by participating in:

  • liturgical celebrations
  • workshops
  • meetings

Celebrating the Formal Agreement

Once the orientation process is complete, each associate determines the ways that they will live out the mission and values of the SSSF. These are written into a formal agreement which is ritualized in a simple community celebration. Associates initially commit for a two-year period, and the commitment is renewable for as long as the relationship is mutually meaningful.
