Sister Maria Rosa Leggol to receive honorary degree from Marquette University

Sister Maria Rosa LeggolMarquette University, located in Milwaukee, will honor School Sister of St. Francis Sister Maria Rosa Leggol on Saturday, May 16th. Sister Maria Rosa is a member of ULAF – the Latin American Province of the School Sisters of St. Francis and a 60 year Jubilarian this year. A special reception will be held for Sister Maria Rosa in the Alumni Memorial Union and will bring together students, staff, and medical professionals who have participated in the Global Brigades program with Sister Maria Rosa. At the commencement exercises on May 17th, Sister Maria Rosa will receive an honorary "Doctor of Humane Letters" degree from the university. Global Brigades evolved from a group of students who were passionate about helping others.  In 2003, a group of Marquette University students accompanied a number of physicians from the University of Indiana to set up medical clinics in the rural villages of Honduras.  Since that occasion, Marquette University has participated in Medical Brigades twice each year.  Additionally, business groups - Global Business Brigades - and engineering groups in conjunction with Engineers without Borders, have done projects in Honduras.  Over 200 Marquette students have participated in this program.
