Events The School Sisters of St. Francis gathered with associates, family members, friends and neighbors to celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph and mark the 90th anniversary of the dedication of St. Joseph Chapel. A historic Milwaukee landmark, the chapel was dedicated on March 19, 1917. St. Joseph’s Day is traditionally celebrated with a feast that interrupts the penance of Lent. In some countries, people prepare a lavish table to share with the poor. This year, the custom was followed by asking for monetary donations to be used for our neighbors served by Layton Boulevard West Neighbors (LBWN), a sponsored ministry of the School Sisters of St. Francis. During the liturgy, Sister Arlene Woelfel, a member of the International Leadership Team of the School Sisters of St. Francis, shared her reflections on St. Joseph and how the message of Joseph’s life is relevant for us today.
A citation from the Wisconsin State Legislature honoring the 90th anniversary was proclaimed to all gathered. This citation was made possible through State Senator Tim Carpenter and Assembly Representative Josh Zepnick and it is now hanging in the lobby outside St. Joseph Chapel for all to see.
