General Assembly
Who is Attending?


RESPONSE IN FAITH, our Constitutions, says: “The General Assembly, when it is in session, is the highest authority in our Congregation. It is a collegial gathering representing our entire Congregation by means of elected delegates and ex officio members. These members form an international faith community with a mission, not only to our Congregation, but also to the Church and to the world.”At this Assembly the delegates and ex officio members are 39 in number and come from the United States, Europe, Latin America, North and South India.

Delegate Profiles

Schwester Julitta Ambooken
Though her origins are in India, she has lived in Germany for many years as a member of the European Province. She is currently the Catholic chaplain in a Lutheran Hospital in Karlsruhe, Germany.

Hermana Flory Leiva
She lives and ministers in San Marcos, Guatemala. A member of the ULAF Province, she has a nursing background and has also held leadership roles.

Sister Patricia Baier
For the last two years, she has served on the International Team. As a member of the U.S. Province she taught for many years in Germany and later served as German translator/interpreter for the International Team.

Sister Lisieux Maria Madhavappally
She is a member of St. Francis Province in North India. An educator, she is now serving as the principal of a diocesan school in Seehore, Madhya Pradesh.

Sister Louise Bernier
She is an educator, a member of the U.S. Province. She currently serves in the Software Development and Education Department of the Circuit Court in Wheaton, Illinois.

Sister Maureen McCarthy
She is a member of the U.S. provincial team. She served as a missionary in Guatemala for many years, as well as among Native Americans in Arizona.

Sister Kate Brenner
She is a former President of the School Sisters of St. Francis and a member of the U.S. Province. Most recently, she is Director of Development, raising funds to support our worldwide ministries.

Sister Mary Ann Meyer
Based in Chicago, IL, she is the New Membership Director for the U.S. Province. Mary Ann is the contact person for U.S. women interested in the School Sisters of St. Francis Congregation

Sister Paulita Chandy
She is currently the Provincial of Assisi Province in South India. She studied at one time in the USA, at Alverno College and at St. Bonaventure in New York.

Sister Adelia Milligan
She lives in Hernando, Mississippi and ministers as a counselor and social worker for the Sacred Heart Southern Missions. She is a former member of the U.S. provincial team.

Sister Elsa Paul Chiriyankandath
She is a member of the provincial team of St. Francis Province in North India. Her field is social work and she has lived and worked in remote villages in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Hermana Monica Olguin
She is a member of the ULAF Province. She serves as the principal of a school in Paita, Peru, as well as working with the youth of the parish in Paita.

Sister Frances Cunningham
She is a member of the U.S. Province and a former President of the School Sisters of St. Francis. Since leaving that office, she has worked in the Mission Office of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

Sister Lissy Payyappilly
She spent many years in Germany where she received her nursing training and practiced nursing. After returning to India she ministered as director of novices and now as a member of the Assisi Provincial Team in South India.

Schwester Claire Marie Essig
She is a member of the provincial team of the European Province. She lives in Switzerland and ministers part-time in a Conference and Wholistic Health Center.

 

Sister Francitta Pazhukkathara
She has worked in education and as formation director. She studied for some time in Alverno College’s Master of Education Program. Currently she is a member of the provincial team in Assisi Province, South India.

Sister Charlita Foxhoven
She currently serves as Assistant to the Treasurer of the Congregation. For a very long time was the Treasurer. She is a member of the U.S. Province.

Sister Joan Puls
She is the current President of the School Sisters of St. Francis. Before her election in 2000, she worked in a Spirituality Center in England and as Director of Novices for Franciscan congregations in Winona, MN.

Sister Toni Gradisnik
Since the General Assembly of 2000, she has been a member of the International Team. A member of the U.S. Province, she was previously a teacher and a principal.

Sister Julia Rice
Recently retired from full-time ministry, her volunteer work continues. She is an immigration lawyer, now living in Milwaukee, WI, and a member of the U.S. Province.

Sister Rose Hacker
She lives and ministers in Boone, IA. She is a liturgist and pastoral minister, and a member of the U. S. Province.

Hermana Carmen Romero
Recently appointed as the Treasurer of the ULAF Province, she lives in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. She has been a pastoral and youth worker in her country.

Sister Marietta Hanus
For the last two years, she has served on the International Team. As a member of the U.S. Province, she spent many years as a missionary in Guatemala and has worked also in the area of development.

Schwester Anita Ruh
She has been the Treasurer of the European Province for many years. She also accompanies people participating in the parish program “Retreat in Everyday Life.”

Sister Liz Heese
She serves on the provincial team of the U.S. Province. Most of her years of ministry have been in the “west”, Nebraska and Iowa, as educator and principal.

Sister Marion Vallachira
She is the principal of a very large English-medium school in Kerala, South India. As a member of the Assisi Province, she was formerly a teacher and is also a musician.

Hermana Juana Hernandez
She is the Provincial of the ULAF Province, a Guatemalan, who has served in various apostolates in Latin America and more recently at a healing center in San Marcos, Guatemala.

Sister Phyllis Vater
She is a member of the U.S. Province, currently ministering in retreat work and spiritual direction. A former member of the International Team, she lives in Milwaukee, WI.

Sister Lee Agnes Hodapp
She is a member of the U.S. Province, living in Petersburg, Nebraska, and ministering as Assistant Director of Rural Religious Formation for the Omaha Archdiocese.

Schwester Gertrud Weber
She is a member of the European Province.  For many years she ministered in Haus Alexia, where she accompanied young adults searching for meaning in their lives.  She presently lives and works in Allschwil, Switzerland.

Sister Tresa Abraham Kizhakeparambil
She is the principal of a large English-medium school in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, in North India. She is a member of that province and has taught sciences.

Schwester Anna Maria Weinmann
A member of the European Province, she lives in Mannheim, Germany. She is part of a “spiritual cell”, witnessing, by prayer and hospitality, to persons seeking renewal and faith.

Sister Kathleen Kluthe
She is a member of the U.S. Province and lives in Tucson, Arizona. Currently she is a member of a Team working with the spiritual formation of laity in southern Arizona.

Sister Phyllis Wirtz
She is the coordinator of Ministry and Community Life for the U.S. Province. She lives in Milwaukee, WI and has also worked with elderly Sisters and Associate Relationship.

Schwester Magdalene Koenig
She is the Provincial of the European Province. She previously worked in parish ministry, spiritual accompaniment and in the preparation of new members of the Congregation.

Sister Felicia Wolf
She is a member of the U.S. Province, living in the Chicago area. She is a Religious Educator and has worked extensively with groups as mentor and facilitator.

Sister Barbara Kraemer
She is currently the Provincial of the U.S. Province. She has served in leadership roles: as a member of the International Team, in education, and as Director of the Center for the Study of Religious Life.

Schwester Erna Maria Zimmerer
She is currently a member of the European provincial team. She also ministers part-time as a spiritual mentor at Freiburg’s Catholic College.

Sister Benedicta Kundukulam
She is the Provincial of St. Francis Province in North India. She received her early professional training in Germany. When she returned to India, she worked primarily in education.
