The tent and balloons created a festive atmosphere for the 25th Anniversary Celebration of The Franciscan Centre on Friday afternoon, June 18, 2010. The air was filled with the aroma of grilled hamburgers, hotdogs and bratwursts prepared with a little showmanship by Mr. Pickles (aka The Pancake Man).
The outdoor festivities were a celebration of the 25 years since the beginning of the Franciscan Centre, and its ministry to the aging person with early stages of memory loss or other frailties. The mission and ministry of the Franciscan Centre began in 1985, led by Glenda Hallberg and Kathleen (Miller) Bach. Today, the Franciscan Centre is directed by Paul Maginn, MSW.
“The Franciscan Day Program is one of the best kept secrets in healthcare,” said Joe Schulte, New Cassel’s chief executive officer. “The day program provides double benefits: care for the clients and respite for the care giver.”
Approximately 150 people attended the Anniversary Celebration, including past directors, board members, staff, volunteers, participants, care givers and their families.
