The School Sisters of St. Francis (SSSF) will hold the congregation’s General Assembly in the SSSF motherhouse in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from April 11 – 26, 2010. The Opening Liturgy will take place at 4:30 on April 11; the meetings will begin on April 12. The General Assembly (G.A.) is an international gathering of representatives from all five provinces of the School Sisters of St. Francis: the United States, Latin America, North India, South India and Europe. During this event, which takes place every four years, the delegates set future directions for the congregation and elect a new international leadership team. The theme of the 2010 General Assembly is, “Be the Franciscan Face of the Gospel in a Multicultural World.” In preparation for the G.A. the sisters are engaging in a faith sharing process which will help to shape the agenda for April, 2010.
Over 40 sisters will participate in the G.A. and hear reports from
each province, from the current international leadership team, from financial staff and ongoing committees. The days will be full
of interaction for the sisters in meetings, prayer and celebrations. Sisters will live at the motherhouse and other locations in Milwaukee, and all meetings will be held in St. Joseph Hall with simultaneous interpretation capabilities. The three official languages of the congregation are English, German and Spanish. By the end of the General Assembly, through a discernment process, a new international leadership team will be chosen and will take office on July 1, 2010.
